I've learned so much about dressing for my body type. I'm quite sure I have an Inverted triangle shape and dressing it in recent times has become a breeze. Come along and lets scrutinize my old outfit vs the one i wore to church a few weeks ago.

Left Outfit:

  • Style: A floral dress with a denim shirt and a belt at the waist.

    Focus Points:

    • The belt attempts to define the waist, but it’s positioned higher, bringing attention to the midsection rather than creating a flattering shape.

    • The dress and shirt combination adds bulk to the upper body, emphasizing the arms and shoulders. The layered denim shirt further broadens the shoulders.

    • The floral print is soft, but the overall structure draws attention to your upper body and stomach area rather than balancing out proportions.

Right Outfit:

  • Style: A waistcoat with a maxi skirt and white short sleeve top.

    Focus Points:

    • The Waistcoat is cinched in at the waist, emphasizing it and making me look shapely.

    • The high-waisted maxi skirt flows out and gives a hint that my waist is really small and that I have well balanced hips (my hips are a bit narrow).

Comparison:

  • Left Look: Though casual and comfortable, it emphasizes the areas you’re trying to downplay—broad shoulders and midsection. The layering adds unnecessary bulk.

  • Right Look: The right outfit is much more flattering for your body type. The V-neck waistcoat and high-waisted, maxi skirt combination effectively balances my proportions, creating a more flattering and shapely look.

Tips for Dressing Your Body Type:

  • Opt for V-Necks: These pull attention toward your chest and away from the shoulders.

  • Use High-Waisted Pants/Skirts: These skim over the lower belly and create a streamlined shape.

  • Wide-Leg or Flared Pants: These help balance out broad shoulders, adding symmetry to your overall look.

  • Belt or cinching at Your Natural Waist: To emphasize your curves, belts should be placed at the narrowest part of your torso.
