DIY Natural Hair Growth Oil: It’s Like Baking A Cake

I finally reached mid back length with my 4c natural hair after a a million years 😢 and I did that by creating my own growth oil and using it consistently with good hair care practices for the past one year and I’d love to teach you how to make your own growth oil in your kitchen! I’m making a batch for my little nieces so the oil is customized. One of them has some scalp issues and in addition, I want more hair growth and thickness for their natural hair.
When it comes to creating your own hair growth oil, choosing the right base oil is crucial. Just like in baking, where flour serves as the essential foundation for cakes, breads, and pastries, your base oil is the backbone of your hair growth oil formula. It determines the texture, nourishment, and effectiveness of your final product and serves as a transporter to carry your more potent oils that are only needed in smaller quantities. That’s why these oils are called carrier oils. Therefore, choosing the best carrier oils for your base oil is very important.
Thick and Rich Base Oils: The Power Players
Think of thick carrier oils like castor and olive oil as the hearty flours used in baking. These carrier oils are rich in nutrients and beneficial fatty acids, making them perfect for adding strength and richness to your hair care routine. Here’s why you might want to consider them:
Castor Oil: Known for its ability to boost hair growth and thickness, castor oil is a fantastic choice for creating a strong foundation in your hair oil.
Olive Oil: Packed with antioxidants, olive oil not only nourishes the hair but also helps to seal in moisture, making it an excellent option for dry, 4C hair.
Light and Absorbent Base Oils: The Balancers
On the flip side, lighter oils like sunflower and grapeseed oil can be compared to fine flour, helping to balance your formula for easy application and absorption. These oils serve several important functions:
Sunflower Oil: This light oil is easily absorbed, making it a great addition to your growth formula without weighing down your hair.
Grapeseed Oil: Known for its light texture and moisturizing properties, grapeseed oil can help improve the overall feel of your oil, making it easier to distribute through your hair.
Mixing and Matching: Finding Your Perfect Blend
To create an effective hair growth oil, consider blending thick and light oils to achieve a nourishing yet lightweight formula. This combination can enhance the absorption of nutrients while providing the richness that 4C natural hair craves. Please take note that there are thousands and thousands of oils and those mentioned in this post are just a few out of various options.
The Final Product: Your Custom Growth Oil Base
Once you’ve selected your oils and found the right balance, it’s time to mix them together. The result will be your growth oil base—think of it as the flour foundation of your growth oil recipe. This base can be used as-is or customized with essential oils and other ingredients to cater to your unique hair needs e.g herbs.
